Thee tentpole film of the summer The Odyssey held its New York premiere on Tuesday, July 14th. This was the 4th such premiere for the film. The first was in London, then Paris, and followed by another in Mumbai.
There isn't a tent big enough to have housed the event in New York. From black car arrivals through black carpet press photographers, a giant Trojan horse, and another black carpet area for video interviews, they took up 3 blocks in front of the AMC Lincoln Square 13 on the Upper West Side.
Usually, a film premiere of this caliber is held at Lincoln Center down the street. This retelling of Homer's epic was filmed entirely on 70mm IMAX and it would only be fitting to screen it on the only screen in New York that can handle Christopher Nolan's truth.
As a matter of fact, there are only around 40 theaters worldwide including 20 in the US that can house this film in its intended viewing capacity.
The movie is going to be screening around the clock the opening weekend which starts July 17th. There will be 2am and 7am screenings. It is hard to find a ticket for the 70mm IMAX screenings even when you look all the way into mid-August. There are a few, but the remainder at this point are front row.
Back to Tuesday's premiere, Christopher Nolan and his Syncopy-producing partner and wife Emma Thomas were there. The lead Matt Damon, who plays Odysseus, was there as well as other stars Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Tom Holland, Charlize Theron, Anne Hathaway, Jon Bernthal, Himesh Patel, Samantha Morton, Elliot Page, Corey Hawkins, Travis Scott, Benny Safdie and more.
Here are some photos from the New York premiere and a couple videos.
