Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Celebrating 20 Years

Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival & Lecture series is a showcase of films that are produced, directed and written by women of color.  Based in Brooklyn, the sisters are celebrating 20 years.
 
"I'm thrilled Reel Sisters is still on the front lines creating spaces where audiences can enjoy stories," said Reel Sisters Founder Carolyn A. Butts. "We are proud of this year's film selections - everyone can go home feeling nourished by the journeys each filmmaker takes us on."

The festival will run October 21-22, 2017 with 30 plus films. AMC Magic Johnson 9 in Harlem and the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Brooklyn will serve as festival venues.
 
Some of the programmed screenings include:
Gabourey Sidibe (Empire) makes her directorial debut with THE TALE OF FOUR.
HUSH, a short drama set in London about a Nigerian girl who stops speaking.
HARLEM LOVE, a 1920's couple whose is tested
PRUDENCE, a World War II nurse struggles with dementia and the loss of her female companion since war.
Emotional tension is stretched in the narrative TOURMENTS D'AMOUR and will play with THAT'S WHY THEY CALLS US COLORED.
SIGHTED EYES/FEELING HEART is a documentary on the life of playwright Lorraine Hansberry.
