Movie Theaters are Reopening in the City

(released 3/4/2021)

Movie theaters in NYC can resume business as of Friday, March 5, 2021.  The following NYC theaters have announced their opening plans.

IFC Center in the Village has stated on Twitter that in addition to state guidelines, "much of our opening plan was informed by feedback from our members. You'll need to wear a proper mask the whole time you're in the theater once we open on Friday and more safety measures are in place!"

The AMC movie theater on the Upper West Side at 84th Street and Broadway has Tom and Jerry tickets and other films on sale for the Friday opening. Social distancing via pre-purchased tickets will allow for you to see how close you will be to others as the seats you choose will have seats directly surrounding it cancelled out for purchase to prevent close contact. Contactless concession with sodas is another feature they are highlighting on their website. The Lincoln Square 13 AMC has stated on their site that they will reopen on March 5 but screening times and tickets are not yet announced as of this writing on March 4, 2021.

Nitehawk Cinema has March 5 opening in mind with screenings of Raya and The Last Dragon, Nomadland, Judas and The Black Messiah and others on opening day's schedule for the Prospect Park location.  Nomadland, Minari and My Salinger Year are scheduled for the Williamsburg location. Every other row in the theaters will be blocked for 25% capacity with masks being worn unless eating or drinking and menus will be available via QR codes with order cards and individualized pens for ordering and signing any checks. Temperature checks before entry can also be expected.

Film Forum will reopen April 2, 2021 and will continue to stream films. For a list of streams available go to: https://filmforum.org

MANK will be screened at Syndicated Theater's 8:30 p.m. indoor re-opening night presentation. Get your indoor seat here: ticketing.useast.veezi.com

March 5, 2015 is the anniversary of the passing of Albert Maysles of the Maysles Documentary Center. As of now, the website seems to only show streaming options for March.

Village East By Angelika will screen starting March 5 using CinemaSafe.org as a guideline for reopening.

The Museum of Moving Image in Queens will continue to present online new releases in the coming weeks. On March 5, the Queens Drive-In will recommence and screen films in coordination with Rooftop Films and New York Hall of Science. The upcoming schedule is here: www.movingimage.us
