NY Films Highlight Center & Closing Nights DOC NYC

(released 11/5/2024)

DOC NYC 2024 will showcase more than 200 films and dozens of events, including in-person appearances by filmmakers at most screenings. Opening night is November 13th with "Blue Road - The Edna O'Brien Story". Famous for her debut novel "The Country Girls", she woke the wrath of patriarchal religious Ireland where the novel and sequels were banned and burned. The film portrays her testimonies at 93 years old.

Closing night of the festival is November 21 at SVA Theater "Drop Dead City - New York City on the Brink in 1975" will screen. The documentary explores the city's infamous descent into financial chaos that led to the 1975 financial crisis. Through first hand accounts from city officials and archival footage, the film captures the suspense, drama, grit and resilience of the city on edge.

The Centerpiece of the festival is November 14th at Village East. This world premiere screening will be "All God's Children". The film looks at the spiritual leaders of Congregation Beth Elohim in Park Slope, Brooklyn and Antioch Baptist Church in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn as they embark on a radical experiment to bring change to their communities. The tension between Jewish and Black Brooklynites brought about this need for change.

The 2024 DOC NYC Festival will take place both in-person and online starting Wednesday, November 13 with in-person screenings and events held at IFC Center, SVA Theatre, and Village East by Angelika through November 21. Online offerings will continue through December 1, 2024.
